I, Robot

The second film I have watched for my Film Studies A-level is I, robot.

Starring Will Smith, I, Robot is a 2004 American neo-noir dystopian science fiction action film directed by Alex Proyas. It is based in the year 2035 where humanity is served by robots and is protected by the three laws of robotics making sure that robots can't ever harm humans. However, when the co-founder of the robotics company is found dead, a Chicago police detective starts to investigate the truth of the robots and whether they can actually evolve to override the three laws. 

 I watched this film on my phone by renting it off Itunes. The positive aspects to this was that I was able to pause, play, rewind and adjust the volume and brightness of the screen. I was also able to easily move about when watching due to small size and weight of the device, therefore  I was able to watch the film comfortably and even watch the film on the go if I needed to, which is something I would be unable to do on other devices

However the negative was that had to keep recharging my phone whilst watching, therefore keeping me slightly tethered to the wall. Another negative was that I kept the screen quite close to my face to watch it properly and follow the fast paced action in the film.

The film contains two main conflicts of Human vs technology and Human vs self. When watching the film, the initial conflict made clear to the audience is Human v.s technology as the main character, Del Spooner is suspicious of and battles against the evolving robots that start to override their three laws that protect humans. However, the true conflict of Human vs Self is gradually revealed throughout as Del's painful past and scars become more evident. The film also follows Christopher Booker's basic plot of 'Overcoming the monster' as Spooner has to try and figure out who killed Dr. Lanning and overcome the evolving robots that threaten humanity. 

Overall I would have preferred to have watched this film on either a laptop or possibly in the cinema as I would have preferred a larger screen and the running time is not too long. However viewing this film on my phone was still enjoyable as the quality was fairly good.
